Drumcondra and General Storage Information

Drumcondra is residential bayside suburb of Geelong, overlooking Corio Bay. It is Geelong’s smallest suburb and one of the smallest in the state of Victoria. It was named after Drumcondra on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 560.

The boundaries of this affluent suburb include Bell Parade, Glenleith Avenue, Melbourne Road, and The Esplanade. Drumcondra is classified as a ‘block’ with Beach Parade as its main road. It only has nine streets and around 200 houses. Some of the most-prized real estate in Geelong are located here.

The first house in the area was constructed in April 1912 on the site of 5 Glenleith Avenue. Other houses were also built along the same street in that year, making 2012 their centennial anniversary.

The iconic Lunan House is located in Drumcondra. It’s a two storey colonial Georgian style mansion built from Barrabool sandstone for woolbroker James Strahan in 1849-50. In later years it was used by the education department of Victoria as a teacher’s college, before being converted back to a private residence.
