Herne Hill and General Storage Information

Herne Hill is a suburb of Geelong, in the state of Victoria. It is located 66 kilometres from the states capital of Melbourne and is within the Australian Eastern Daylight Time or AEDT. At the 2016 Census, it had a population of 3,413. Its local government area is the City of Greater Geelong.

This gem of a suburb is home to five reserves, the Western Heights Secondary College (formerly known as Geelong West Technical School), and the Geelong Protestant Orphan Asylum which is one of the first four orphanages built in Victoria during the 1850s.

The state primary school officially opened in 1954 while a Catholic primary school opened in 1955. The Brigidine Sisters founded a convent and opened the Clonard College in 1956. The latter is an independent Roman Catholic secondary day school for girls.

The suburban growth in this largely residential and family-friendly suburb came after World War II. Herne Hill has lots of potential, with noticeable gentrification happening in the area. Now it has small shopping centres in Church and Autumn streets, and along Minerva Road. At the northeast section of the suburb, the Moorabool River flows into the majestic Barwon River.
