Grovedale and General Storage Information

Grovedale is a southern suburb of Geelong, in the state of Victoria. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 14,308. Its local government area is the City of Greater Geelong.

The largely residential suburb was originally named ‘Germantown’ because a number of families of German Lutheran descent had set residence there in 1849, and the German community continued to grow in the succeeding decades.

Grovedale’s first churches, halls, and reserves were constructed along the road to Torquay and the suburb expanded in the early 1960s along the Surfcoast Highway. Further expansion until the 1990s moved to the west along Church Street, Heyers Road, and Pioneer Road.

Today, Grovedale is characterised by contemporary brick houses, reflecting its progress. As one of the larger residential suburbs in Geelong, it’s no surprise that schools, medical centres, shopping complexes, and other community facilities have been developed in the area to cater to the needs of its residents. Grovedale is a stone throw away from Geelong Airport and a mere 15-minute drive from the Surfcoast.
