What can’t I put in my Portable Storage Unit?
From decluttering to renovating or moving, there’s a plethora of uses for storage units. They can handle just about anything, from business files to clothing through to furniture and cars. Need a place to keep your boat during winter? That’s not a problem too. Bring ’em on in.
But did you know that there are certain restrictions on what you can and cannot store inside? While storage units and storage facilities are ideal for most items, there are a few things that are prohibited. Check out the list below to know which items should NOT be kept inside a storage unit…
Combustible or Flammable Materials
The temperature inside storage units can fluctuate quickly and drastically. This makes them unsafe for storing combustible or flammable items. You definitely don’t want to risk burning your unit or the entire storage facility! If an item can cause fire, you may need to find another place to store it.
Some combustible materials prohibited in storage units include:
- Gasoline/petrol
- Gas Bottles & Aerosols
- Oil or cleaning solvents
- Paint and paint thinner
Vermin, Bugs, Dust & Dirt Protection
Vermin, Bugs, Dust & Dirt is the last thing you want to see when you come to retrieve an item from your storage unit. We take all necessary preventative measures to keep pests away. You can be confident that when you use 1800 We Store It we have custom-made units that are waterproof which avoids any of the above issues from arising.
Plants & Outdoor Items
Unfortunately, you cannot store plants as they will most certainly not survive in a Portable storage unit, in addition they can cause mold, mildew, mud & dust to spread through your goods. You can however store outdoor furniture and garden tools these items are no problem whatsoever.
Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives
You can’t put any ammunition, firearm or other weaponry in a storage unit. Don’t put anything into the storage unit that you would not want going off accidentally. Although such items may seem like they’re safe inside a storage container, they are prohibited because accidents can occur and they may inadvertently ignite an explosion.
Since our facility is accessed by different customers and the storage unit isn’t legally yours, the assessment of the safety of your unit is not appropriate for weapons and explosives, especially since these items represent a serious risk, not only to our facility and staff but also to our other valued clients.
Stolen and Illegal Items
We don’t want to be involved in any dodgy business. If you are in possession of illegal goods or stolen items, you won’t have any luck keeping it in your storage unit. Our storage facility is well-monitored CCTV & alarm systems that are monitored 24/7. Our staff members are liable to advise management who may call the police once they suspect that something fishy is going on.
